History
Established in 1998, and built on four decades of public-sector, academic, and multilateral practice.
Biosphere Worldwide was established in 1998. A sister company, Biosphere Consultants, was formed in 2020 to carry the practice into market research, project management, and policy development. Together we design and deliver programmes that widen access to technical consultancy, scientific research, and training.
The firm began on the strength of our lead consultant, Dr. Muhammad Ayub, whose career spans consultant and expert appointments with IUCN and FAO, senior government office, and leadership of a provincial government department across all provinces of Pakistan. He has coordinated and implemented national and provincial projects, worked with FAO, UNDP, and the Common Fund for Commodities, served as Team Leader on an Asian Development Bank project, and held the post of Director and CEO of INFOFISH in Malaysia.
The consultancy was originally conceived as a publication and a group of activists — professionals and academics working in Pakistan, all committed to bringing a holistic awareness of environmental issues and sustainability to the general public. The chance to do something more active led to the idea of a proactive consultancy: people with a genuine desire to drive change in local communities and the wider ecological environment, brought under one umbrella to help development agencies, governments, and private organisations deliver their climate and environmental programmes.
We have a particular interest in the climate and environmental questions facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. We completed a research project on the environmental condition and water quality of freshwater streams, funded by the Pakistan Science Foundation, and have implemented development projects funded by FAO, the Common Fund for Commodities, and UNDP with INFOFISH in Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iran, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
